about

Almost 15 years since its formation and three years since its last album, Melmac continues its ongoing evolution by becoming a guitar/drum trio.

The group now announces a new release entitled “Un chien vivant vaut mieux qu’un lion mort / Un lion mort vaut mieux qu’un chien vivant” (meaning “a living dog is better than a dead lion / a dead lion is better than a living dog”). This album will be out in September on vinyl and in digital form.

In its first years of existence, the group defined its own artistic world, a sort of anguished and abstract “imageless cinema” drawing from the borders of instrumental rock, ambient music and minimalist sound experiments. This work was widely praised and found a fan base amongst the French underground scene and specialized media.

In the creation of this new opus, the three Parisians turn to music that is undeniably full of life, movement and emotion. Machines are set aside and replaced by live recordings. The result encourages us to wander through urban urgency, psychedelic hallucinations and calm contemplation. Music from the here and now, fed by simple pleasures, inviting us to live in the moment.
